Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan dedicated the State Forest Martyrs Memorial and Chandanpura City Forest in the capital Bhopal on National Forest Martyrs' Day. CM Shivraj Singh said, till now an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh is given to the family of the martyrs who lay down his life while protecting the forest and wildlife. That amount will be hiked to Rs 25 lakh.
More than 50,000 trees have been planted
Chandanpura City Forest is spread over an area of 50 hectares. To create this city forest, the forest department has planted more than 50 thousand trees. It encompasses both plains and hilly areas. In fact, an adult tree produces 230 to 250 liters of oxygen daily.
Will act as an oxygen bank
According to this, 1 crore 15 lakh liters of oxygen will be produced daily from this city forest, which will improve the climate of the city. Thus the forest will act as an oxygen bank for the city. At present there are five city forests in the city. The Forest Department is giving the gift of the sixth city forest to the city residents. Where they can do morning walk and jogging.
A mixed forest has also been prepared for birds. In such a situation, a large number of migratory birds will also gather here.
Vehicles will not be allowed inside
Special arrangements have been made for the tourists to visit the Chandanpura City Forest. There is a 12 feet high mesh fencing around it. There are about 300 species of trees and plants in the city forest. Vehicles will not be allowed inside.
DFO Alok Pathak said that it will be opened for the common people after the rains. Those visiting here will have to park their vehicles outside and tour on foot. People will feel like a forest inside City Forest (Nagar Van). Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and Minister of State for Forests Rahul Lodhi were present in the programme organized at Van Bhawan on Link Road number two.
Entry fee of about Rs 50
According to Forest Department officials, people will have to pay an entry fee of around Rs 50 to visit the city forest.
For regular visitors, entry will be available through monthly pass. The monthly pass fees will be will be decided soon.
Here people will have to travel on foot. There is also a large colony of termites and ants inside.
QR codes have also been installed on trees of different species here. People can get information about the tree by scanning.
Many other attractive parks are inside City Forest
Many other attractive parks including Butterfly Park, Patjhad Van (Autumn Forest) are also in Nagar Van.
There is also a small pond inside the city forest. Fish and ducks are reared here.
Wooden huts have been made at many places
Huts have been made of wood at many places. These places are named after species of trees.
Polythene free zone
It will be prohibited to carry polythene in the city forest. Here you will get a cloth bag by paying the prescribed fee at the gate. On return, the amount can be refunded by returning this bag back to the gate. Visitors will have to go on foot within the city forest. Later bicycles can be made available here.
Announcements in favour of forest employees
While dedicating the Chandanpura Forest, CM Shivraj made many announcements for forest staff. Shivraj said the ex-gratia amount payable to the families of forest department employees who sacrificed their lives protecting forests and wildlife will be increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
Forest department staff will also be given uniform allowance of Rs 5,000 and nutritious diet allowance of Rs 1,000. National Forest Martyrs’ Day will be celebrated every year.
