Paddy Politics Heats Up Ahead Of Chhattisgarh Elections-2023; Will Farmers Get Old Bonus; Why CM Bhupesh Baghel Is Trying To Pass Ball In PM Modi’s Court

Raipur: The issue of paddy purchase and bonus payment has heated up the politics of the state as Chhattisgarh Elections-2023 approach. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has thrown the ball into Centre's court in this regard. CM Baghel had recently written a letter to PM Narendra Modi demanding to end the ban on giving paddy bonus to farmers. So that the outstanding bonus of Rs 3 thousand 700 crore can be given to the farmers. Reacting to this letter, BJP State President Arun Sao has termed Bhupesh government as Paltu government i.e. the government that retracts its promises.

This is how the CM threw the ball in the PM's court

Politics continues in Chhattisgarh regarding paddy purchase and bonus. On one hand, there is competition between Congress and BJP to take credit for purchasing paddy. On the other hand, politics has started regarding the outstanding bonuses of the years 2014-15 and 2015-16.

In fact, the Congress Party in its public manifesto had promised to give the outstanding bonus for the years 2014-15 and 2015-16 to the farmers if the government was formed in the state. But till date the bonus has not been given to the farmers. In such a situation, BJP is making it a big election issue by terming it as against the promise of the government. In view of the political loss on this issue, the CM of the state has written a letter to PM Modi demanding removal of the ban on giving bonus. That means CM has thrown the ball in PM Modi's court.

Arun Sao dubbed CM as Palturam

On the other hand, reacting to the CM's letter, BJP President Arun Sao said that state CM Bhupesh Baghel is playing the role of Paltu Ram that is he is not fulfilling the promises. Just as they have gone back on every promise, in the same way they are now going back on the promise of giving bonus at the time of elections. Arun Sao said that the Congress Party had not asked the PM at the time of announcing paddy bonus. Then why he is now seeking PM's permission  for paying the bonus.

This issue works to make and break the govt in state

In Chhattisgarh, paddy procurement holds great political significance, often influencing the state government's fate. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has made efforts to counter the BJP's claims of failing to fulfill promises by penning a letter to Prime Minister Modi, requesting to allow to pay  paddy bonus to peasants.

Following the letter's submission, the CM and the Congress party intend to tell farmers that PM Modi is eresponsible for non-payment of bonus to farmers emphasizing that the PM did not lift the bonus restriction. However, whether this explanation will satisfy the farmers remains an important and uncertain matter.
