India resumes e-Visa service for Canadian citizens

New Delhi: India has resumed e-Visa service for Canadian citizens. Sources have given this information. The government has started e-Visa services for the people of Canada after a pause of 2 months.

Earlier in October, India had restored visa services in some categories including entry visa, business visa, medical visa, and conference visa.

This news is a bit of a relief amid the ongoing tension between India and Canada. Quoting sources, it is being claimed that India has lifted the ban on e-Visas issued to Canadian citizens.

It is noteworthy that Canada had accused Indian agents of the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in September, after which tensions between India-Canada increased. India took many tough decisions.

Canadian Prime Minister Justice Trudeau had said in Parliament that the murder of Canadian citizen Nijjar outside the Gurudwara in Surrey city of British Columbia province in June was carried out by Indian agents. After this, on September 21, India had banned e-Visa service for Canadian citizens.

Last month, Canada said it had removed 41 of its diplomats from India and halted its visa and consular services in Chandigarh, Mumbai and Bengaluru. It said that the services would now be available only at the Canadian High Commission in Delhi.

Last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his UK visit said: "We are not ruling out an investigation into Nijjar's killing... (but) if you (the Canadian government) have a reason to make such an allegation, please share the evidence with us. We will look at anything you have to offer."
