Gwalior: In the run-up to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections-2023, candidate Imarti Devi, a prominent BJP representative and supporter of Jyotiraditya Scindia, finds herself entangled in a controversy.
A complaint has been filed against her with the Election Commission, accusing her of not disclosing information about criminal charges in her affidavit. Concealing or providing false information in this crucial document is considered an offence, which could lead to the cancellation of a candidate's nomination.
I have been acquitted in two case: Imarti
Imarti Devi has responded to the allegations, asserting that she has been acquitted in two cases against her and that her affidavit is accurate. She maintains that there are no pending cases against her. The complainant, Sanket Sahu, contends that Imarti Devi has intentionally violated Supreme Court precedents by failing to disclose her criminal record.
Imarti Devi, a BJP candidate from the Dabra assembly constituency in rural Gwalior district, has also served as a minister in the previous Congress government. The complaint against her alleges that she concealed her criminal record while submitting her nomination to the Election Commission of India.
7 criminal cases registered against Imarti: Complaint
The complaint specifies that there are seven criminal cases registered against her, with six in the Dabra City police station and one in the Pichor police station. Consequently, there is a demand to annul her nomination.
Furthermore, the complaint points out that Imarti Devi had similarly omitted her criminal history from her nomination forms in the 2008 elections and subsequent ones. It also raises concerns about the undervaluation of a revolver in her nomination form and the absence of her educational qualification mark sheets.
