Rajouri Encounter: Two army officers, 2 soldiers martyred in gun battle with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

 

Rajouri: Two army officers and two soldiers were martyred in action after a fierce encounter broke in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.


The encounter started after army's special forces and police launched a joint operation. They had received intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the forest area.

 

An intense gun battle continued in the region as additional troops were deployed to eliminate the two terrorists cornered in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal following a cordon-and-search operation.

The casualties included two captains and two havildars, with other officials sustaining injuries. 

 

Those injured in the encounter have been transported to the Army's Command Hospital in Udhampur.

 

Terrorists had been moving around the area since Sunday

 

Officials said the two trapped terrorists in Bajimaal, suspected to be foreign nationals, had been moving around the area since Sunday, even seeking refuge in a place of worship.

Meanwhile, local residents told hat a cordon-and-search operation had been ongoing in the region since Sunday to track down terrorists. Due to the operation, villagers were asked to stay indoors, and children did not attend school.

The border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have experienced a surge in terrorist incidents over the past eighteen months. Notably, on November 17, a terrorist was killed in an encounter in the Guller Behrote area of Rajouri. 


The Pir Panjal forest in Jammu and Kashmir have proved to be a challenge for the security forces in the last few years and a series of encounters have taken place here.

Terrorists take advantage of treacherous mountains, dense jungles and the alpine forests to hide their positions.


The encounter broke out in the morning during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by a joint team of army, police and CRPF in Guller-Behrote area of Budhal tehsil.
