Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse: Workers Likely To Be Rescued By Late Night; Temporary Hospital Built; Could Be Airlifted To AIIMS

The 41 workers trapped in a collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand's Silkyara are likely to be rescued today i.e. Wednesday late night or early hours of Thursday. They will be rescued after remaining trapped for 11 days. Only 12 metres of rock and debris separate them and rescue operation is expected to be over by 11:30 pm, officials said today.

The under-construction tunnel had collapsed on November 12, trapping the labourers working inside. Advanced drilling machines were flown in as rescue officials raced against time to save the trapped workers.

45 beds reserved in Uttarkashi District Hospital

As the expectation of workers coming out of the tunnel is growing, preparations for their first aid have also intensified. A temporary 41-bed hospital is ready in Uttarakhand's Chinyalisour. A helipad has been built about four kilometers away from here, from where workers can be airlifted to AIIMS. 45 beds have also been reserved separately in Uttarkashi District Hospital.

Secretary Dr. Neeraj Khairwal said that some laborers were complaining of stomach upset and pain, for which medicine has been sent. Besides, some necessary clothes, brushes and pastes have also been sent to the workers.
