A 30-year-old woman has accused industrialist Sajjan Jindal of rape, alleging that he had promised to marry her. Jindal, the 64-year-old chairman and managing director of the $23-billion JSW Group, refuted the allegations on Sunday.
According to the woman, who describes her as an actor on her social media profile, she met Jindal at a cricket match in Dubai a few years ago, leading to a friendship that escalated to the industrialist developing an attraction towards her.
The alleged sexual assault is said to have occurred on January 24 of the previous year inside the JSW Group headquarters. The woman, a resident of Mumbai, reported the incident to the police on February 16, and the FIR was filed on December 13 at the BKC police station under sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
False and baseless: Jindal
In a statement issued on Sunday, Jindal vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as false and baseless. He expressed his commitment to providing full cooperation during the investigation and urged respect for the privacy of his family.
The woman claimed that she first encountered Jindal in the VIP box of a Dubai stadium, where they exchanged contact numbers. Subsequently, she alleges meeting him at a star hotel in suburban Bandra and at Jindal Mansion in south Mumbai. She also mentioned going on a drive with him before the alleged sexual assault took place.
In the filed FIR, the woman noted that Jindal has been avoiding contact with her since the incident.
