Newly elected members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan paid a visit to former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at her residence in Civil Lines. The party is currently in suspense over the selection of its chief ministerial candidate for the state.
The development comes amid intense speculations over the contenders for the top post after the BJP returned to power in the state.
The BJP has yet to announce the date for the legislature party meeting where the leader, and subsequently the chief minister, will be chosen. Vasundhara Raje, a two-time chief minister, is considered one of the top contenders for the position.
Earlier in the week, on Monday and Tuesday, several BJP MLAs held meetings with Raje, seen as a demonstration of support. Raje had also recently visited Delhi, where she met with BJP President JP Nadda.
To oversee the legislature party meeting, the party has already appointed three observers, including Union Minister Rajnath Singh. The assembly election results, declared on November 30, saw the BJP winning 115 seats, while the Congress secured 69 seats.
The election on 199 out of 200 seats in the state took place on November 25. Polling in Karanpur, where the election was adjourned due to the demise of the Congress candidate, is scheduled for January 5, with results to be declared on January 8.
