MP Weather: Bhopal Witnesses Season’s Second Coldest Night; Chhatarpur Freezes at 3°C

Bhopal: A wave of frigid winds from North India has left the entire Madhya Pradesh region in a state of cold discomfort. Bhopal, Raisen, and Narmadapuram experienced light drizzle on Saturday morning.

The night of Friday marked the second-lowest temperature of the season in the state capital, with the mercury dropping to 9.0 degrees. Previously, on December 20, the temperature had dipped to 8.8 degrees Celsius, while Thursday recorded a minimum of 9.4 degrees.

Naugaon in Chhatarpur recorded the coldest temperature at 3.1 degrees, with nighttime temperatures falling to 10 degrees or below in over 15 cities. Severe cold conditions persist in half of the state, affecting cities such as Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Satna, and Guna, with the possibility of fog and frost.

Nighttime temperatures could further plummet

Prakash Dhawale, a scientist at the Meteorological Center in Bhopal, attributed the widespread cold to the jet stream at 12 km above the ground and the chilly winds coming from the north. Meteorologist SN Sahu warned that nighttime temperatures could further plummet in the upcoming days.

The prevailing cold temperatures also pose a threat to large leafy vegetables. Dr. RK Jaiswal, Principal Scientist at the Fruit Research Center, explained that temperatures of 4 degrees or lower are considered frost, causing significant harm to these vegetables.
