Rajasthan: Congress said this over BJP minister's defeat on Karanpur seat

BJP government minister Surendra Pal Singh has suffered a setback of defeat in the elections held at Karanpur assembly seat in Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan. He has been defeated by Congress candidate Rupinder Singh Kunnar.

Surendra Pal Singh was made a minister during the cabinet expansion held before the elections. He was informed about being made a minister and was asked to come to Jaipur to take oath, when he was busy in election campaign.

Congress leaders had criticized the appointment of Surendra Pal as a minister just before the elections and had asked the Election Commission to pay attention to it.

After the election results, the state Congress has taken a jibe at BJP.

It is written on the official X handle of the state Congress, "Government can appoint ministers, but cannot make MLAs!"

Congress leader Rupinder Singh Kunnar has won the Karanpur assembly seat in Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan.

He has defeated BJP candidate Surendra Pal Singh. Kunar's victory margin was more than 12 thousand votes.

Voting on this seat was held on January 5. Counting of votes took place on Monday. Rupinder was continuously leading during the counting.

Surendra Pal was made a minister in the new government of Rajasthan.

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has congratulated Rupendra Singh on winning.

Gehlot has said on social platform X, "The people of Srikaranpur have defeated the pride of the Bharatiya Janata Party."

Elections could not be held on this seat due to the death of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Kunnar in November last year.

In the elections held in November 2023, BJP has formed the government by winning 115 out of 199 seats in the state.
