Will Nitish Kumar Make U-turn in Light of Bharat Ratna for Karpoori Thakur

Following the recent announcement of the Bharat Ratna for Karpoori Thakur, Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has expressed gratitude towards the Modi government. Additionally, he has raised questions, criticising dynastic politics, about why Karpoori Thakur was not conferred with the Bharat Ratna during the Congress government's tenure.

Highlighting Karpoori Thakur's legacy of eschewing dynastic politics, Nitish Kumar remarked, "Karpoori Thakur never promoted his family. Nowadays, people tend to uplift their families. After Karpoori Thakur's demise, we have groomed his son, Ramnath Thakur. Drawing inspiration from Karpooriji, I, too, have refrained from promoting anyone within my family. My focus has always been on uplifting others."

In a move consistent with the BJP's criticism of dynasty politics within the Congress, Nitish acknowledged the rightness of awarding Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur. However, he pointed out that he did not receive a call from the Prime Minister regarding the decision, emphasizing that the call went to Ramnath Thakur.

"We express our gratitude to them through the media. We have been requesting for a long time. Congress also remained in power. Others were also there, but Bharat Ratna was not conferred. Now, they have given it, and we are thankful," Nitish added.

Speculations have arisen about Nitish Kumar's political trajectory, especially considering his recent meeting with the Bihar governor. Many are hinting at a potential U-turn, suggesting a shift towards rejoining the NDA. With Karpoori Thakur's Bharat Ratna as a justifiable reason, Nitish Kumar may find grounds to justify such a political move.
