Farmers prepare to march to Delhi, long queues of vehicles choke roads, police take 200 farmers into custody

Farmers have made preparations to march towards Delhi on UP-Delhi Highway in tractor-trolleys and on foot. About 200 farmers have been detained and police have increased the vigil on the Chilla border. At the same time, after the Mahapanchayat meeting, gherao of the Parliament House has been announced.

The administration has imposed Section 144 and farmers are being stopped at various places. UP-Delhi highway has been jammed due to farmers' movement. Noida Expressway has been closed.

Extensive traffic jams

On Thursday, extensive traffic jams plagued the routes connecting Noida to the national capital, courtesy of a protest march by farmers. Commuters endured hours of delays, trapped in the congestion caused by traffic restrictions and diversions implemented by the Noida traffic police.

The streets were clogged with long lines of vehicles, creating a standstill situation at Sarita Vihar where numerous two-wheelers and four-wheelers found themselves ensnared in the gridlock. Additionally, a significant traffic jam was reported on the Delhi-Noida Expressway.

In the latest developments, protesters, including women, who had initially assembled near the Mahamaya flyover in Noida, are now making their way towards the national capital. The police have issued a traffic advisory, warning commuters about route diversions in Delhi and Noida due to the farmers' movement on tractors.

This situation bears resemblance to the events in 2021 when thousands of farmers camped at the borders of UP and Haryana near Delhi, advocating for their demands. Led by Rakesh Tikait, the protesting farmers withdrew after the Central government assured them of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.

Announcement of Mahapanchayat

Farmers protesting against Noida and Greater Noida Authority, NTPC and Ansal Builder announced ghearo of Delhi Parliament in the Mahapanchayat on Wednesday. However, due to this announcement and this movement, the administration has imposed Section 144 and strict action is being taken to stop the tractors.

Farmers' agitation has been going on for 60 days

This agitation of farmer organizations has been going on for 60 days. Therefore, they have decided to surround Parliament. Therefore the police are stopping farmers on the UP-Delhi Highway and Noida Expressway. However, during this time, information is also coming to light about the altercation between the police and farmers at Chilla border.

Why Noida Farmer Are Protesting

Since December 2023, farmers' groups in Noida and Greater Noida have been engaged in a protest, pressing for increased compensation and allocated plots in exchange for the land acquired by local development authorities in the past.
