Maihar, Madhya Pradesh: Tragedy struck Maihar in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh as two children succumbed to suspected measles, while 17 others fell victim to the contagious disease. Local authorities have enforced a three-day closure of schools across eight affected villages, announced a health official on Monday. To contain the potential spread, a dedicated medical team has been dispatched.
The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), LK Tiwari, revealed that two children, including a seven-year-old, lost their lives to suspected measles on February 14 and 16, with an additional 17 cases identified across eight villages.
Seven of the infected children are currently receiving medical care in a local hospital, he added.
Following an official report, the district collector has issued directives to shut down all government and private schools in the affected villages for three days starting Monday.
The collector has also sought a comprehensive survey of habitations within a 5 km radius of these villages, aiming to assess and mitigate potential risks, the official stated.
In a precautionary move, the collector imposed a ban on gatherings of children during any events in the affected areas.
Samples collected from the infected children have been dispatched to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal for examination, he confirmed.
