Ravichandran Ashwin etches his name in cricket history, becomes second Indian to achieve this feat

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has etched his name in cricket history by reaching 500 wickets in Test matches, becoming only the second Indian bowler to achieve this remarkable milestone. Anil Kumble was the first to achieve this feat in 105 matches.

Ashwin accomplished the 500-wicket milestone during the third Test match against England in Rajkot, dismissing Jack Crawley on the second day. This achievement places him as the ninth bowler globally to achieve this remarkable record.

Reaching this landmark in his 98th Test, Ashwin is second on the list of bowlers who achieved 500 wickets in the fewest matches, with Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan accomplishing the feat in 87 matches.

World's 9th Bowler to Reach 500 Test Wickets

Among the elite group of bowlers with 500 Test wickets, three are from Australia, two each from England and India, and one each from Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

Most Wickets at Wankhede Stadium

Ashwin's success with the ball in India is highlighted by his exceptional performances at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where he took the most wickets – 38 in five matches. Additionally, he claimed 30 wickets in four matches at his home ground, Chepauk Stadium.

Leading Wicket-Taker Abroad on Australian Soil

Ashwin's prowess extends beyond Indian grounds, particularly on Australian soil, where he took the most wickets abroad. In 10 Tests against Australia, he secured 39 wickets. Furthermore, he has 38 wickets in six Tests in Sri Lanka. Ashwin boasts a total of 347 wickets in 58 matches on Indian soil.
