Chidambaram attacks Center over reduction in prices of petrol and diesel, what he said


Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has targeted the government for reducing the prices of petrol and diesel and said that first the prices were increased and then just before the elections they were marginally reduced. 


Public sector petroleum companies cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per liter each on Thursday evening as the announcement of Lok Sabha elections approached. The new rates will come into effect from 6 am on Friday.


Chidambaram posted on 'X', "Last week in the press conference I had said that the prices of petrol and diesel will be reduced. This has been done today. Can BJP claim that the prices will not be hiked after the elections if it comes to power again?


The former finance minister said the price of LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 700 by the BJP government and then reduced by Rs 100 just before the elections. He claimed that similar tactics has been used in the case of petrol and diesel also.
