Kejriwal’s arrest: These Top Leaders Will Join INDIA Alliance's Mega Rally on March 31 Alongside Rahul Gandhi, Kalpana Soren, Akhilesh

The Delhi Police have allowed the holding of a massive rally by the INDIA bloc on March 31 at the Ramleela Maidan to voice opposition against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Thirteen parties forming part of the Opposition alliance will participate in the rally, with leaders such as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge slated to attend, as per insider sources.

According to these sources, Kalpana Soren, the spouse of incarcerated former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will also deliver a speech at the rally. Hemant Soren, who was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January over an alleged land scam shortly after resigning as Chief Minister, remains in custody.

Among the prominent leaders expected to join the rally under the INDIA bloc banner 'Tanashahi Hatao, Loktantra Bachao' (Remove dictatorship, save democracy) are veteran politician Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray along with his son Aaditya Thackeray, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, among others, as per sources.

The announcement of the mega rally came on March 24 following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy case. Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21 under anti-money laundering laws following searches at his official residence in Delhi.

Nationwide protests on March 30

Preceding the March 31 rally, the Congress party is scheduled to stage nationwide protests on March 30 against Income Tax notices. While the March 31 rally focuses on Kejriwal’s arrest the March 30 countrywide protests are being organized to protest against the I-T notices to the grand old party.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal has directed all state units to organize demonstrations at PCC and district Congress Committee headquarters on Saturday.

"In light of this atrocious attack on democracy and the imposition of tax terrorism on our party amidst the crucial Lok Sabha elections, all state units of the party are requested to hold massive public demonstrations at the State and District headquarters in their respective states tomorrow and the following day, involving senior leaders and party functionaries," Venugopal said.

"Massive protest demonstrations shall be held in all constituencies, led by our party candidates. Protest demonstrations, including Mashal Juloos, shall be conducted in all districts by the District Congress Committees," he added.
