Sudha Murty nominated to Rajya Sabha; PM Modi said this


Sudha Murty, the esteemed author and philanthropist, has been appointed to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognizing the significance of this nomination on International Women's Day, praised Ms. Murty's selection as a strong representation of the country's 'Nari Shakti' or women power.


Expressing his joy, PM Modi tweeted, "I am delighted that the President of India has nominated @SmtSudhaMurty Ji to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji's contributions to diverse fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education, have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our 'Nari Shakti,' exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation's destiny. Wishing her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure."


The President of India appoints 12 members to the Upper House of Parliament based on their noteworthy contributions to arts, literature, sciences, and social services.


Sudha's son-in-law is Rishi Sunak


Sudha Murty, renowned for her simplicity and openness, commenced her career as an engineer with TELCO (now Tata Motors). She currently serves as the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and has made significant contributions to social work. Her husband, Narayana Murthy, is the founder of Infosys, and her son-in-law is UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. 


Was honored with Padma Bhushan last year


Last year, she was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, for her outstanding social work, following the Padma Shri in 2006. Additionally, Ms. Murty is a prolific writer in English and Kannada, with her books translated into all major Indian language
