What Rahul Gandhi Said After Congress Got ₹ 1,800 Crore Income Tax Notice

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledged that decisive measures would be taken against those undermining democracy, once there is a change in government. This declaration came after the party received a hefty income tax notice amounting to ₹1,800 crore, which it condemned as "tax terrorism". The notice pertains to the assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21 and encompasses penalties and interest.

Gandhi asserted on the microblogging platform X that action against those jeopardizing democracy would be swift and resolute under a new administration, ensuring that such transgressions are not repeated. He guaranteed stringent repercussions against the culprits.

The Congress is grappling with financial constraints following a ₹200 crore penalty imposed by Income Tax authorities, along with freezing of its assets, a setback not alleviated by the high court. With the Lok Sabha elections-2024 looming, the Congress is poised to approach the Supreme Court in this matter.

Alleging that central agencies like the Income Tax department are acting at the behest of the BJP, Gandhi asserted that the Congress is gearing up for a protracted legal battle to contest the tax claims.

BJP should also be subjected to IT scrutiny: Ajay Maken

Ajay Maken, another Congress leader, argued that the BJP should also be subjected to income tax scrutiny, considering the substantial donations it has received.

Jairam Ramesh, General Secretary of the Congress, accused the BJP of violating income tax laws and urged the tax department to demand ₹4,617.58 crore from the BJP. Furthermore, he alleged that the BJP amassed ₹8,200 crore through the "electoral bonds scam".

Despite attempts to financially cripple the Congress, Ramesh emphasized that they would not be intimidated. The party remains steadfast in its resolve to confront these challenges.
