10 Free LPG Cylinders, No CAA, These Are Trinamool Congress's Other Pledges for Lok Sabha Elections-2024

Kolkata: Presenting their manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections -2024 , the Trinamool Congress reiterated its commitment, along with other members of the opposition bloc, to revoke the changes made to the citizenship law if it emerges victorious against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP.

Aside from this significant pledge, Bengal's ruling party, despite not formalizing seat-sharing arrangements with the Congress-led group, unveiled several substantial promises. These include providing 10 free LPG cylinders annually to families below the poverty line and distributing five kilograms of essential rations, including rice, wheat, and grains, every month.

Support to farmers

Additionally, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party vowed support to farmers amidst the MSP row, advocating for setting the minimum support price in alignment with the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Commission, guaranteeing it to be at least 50% higher than the average production cost.

Furthermore, the Trinamool committed to capping petrol and diesel prices at affordable levels and establishing a price stabilisation fund to mitigate future fluctuations in the volatile international market.

100 days of guaranteed work to all job card holders

In addressing employment concerns, the party assured 100 days of guaranteed work to all job card holders, with a nationwide minimum wage set at ₹400 per day. It also pledged to triple the number of higher education scholarships for marginalized communities, specifically targeting Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Tribes.

Monthly pension of ₹1,000 for senior citizens

For senior citizens aged over 60, an overhaul of the existing pension scheme was proposed, promising a monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ensure dignified living. The manifesto also guarantees "safe and secure homes" to all impoverished families across the country.

Promising to fulfill these commitments as part of the opposition bloc, Derek O'Brien, outgoing Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized their dedication to these initiatives during the launch event in Kolkata.

The release of the Trinamool manifesto coincided with Mamata Banerjee's fierce criticism of the BJP during her campaign in Assam's Silchar, where she issued a stern warning about the impending election's severity.

Rajnath Singh accuses Left parties of jeopardizing national security

The Trinamool's manifesto mirrors those of its allies, including the DMK and Congress, with shared objectives such as dismantling India's nuclear weapons. However, this stance faced criticism from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who accused the Left parties of jeopardizing national security.

As the election approaches, the contrasting manifestos from various political parties underscore the diverse concerns and priorities shaping the electoral landscape.
