Netanyahu calls war cabinet meeting; Israel claims it shot down most of drones, missiles fired by Iran

Iran has launched large-scale attacks on Israel with drones and missiles. The attack was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli strike on Iran's Damascus consulate earlier in April.

A proxy war has been going on between the two main rival countries for years but this is the first time a face-to-face fight has started.

The Israeli Army says that Israel and other countries have intercepted more than 300 cruise missiles and drones, most of which are outside Israeli airspace.

Israel says that they were intercepted outside their country's airspace.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated, "Dozens of surface-to-surface missile launches from Iran were identified approaching Israeli territory. The IDF Aerial Defense Array successfully intercepted the majority of the launches using the Arrow Aerial Defense System, together with Israel's strategic allies, before they crossed into Israeli territory."

"We intercepted 99% of the threats launched to the territory of Israel. It's a very significant strategic success," Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said.

US President Joe Biden said, "We have helped Israel down almost all of them."

Joe Biden condemned the Iranian attack, saying that Iran and its supported proxy groups have launched an unprecedented air strike on military bases in Israel from Yemen, Syria and Iraq.

Expressing strong condemnation, he said, "Iran and its proxies operating from Yemen, Syria and Iraq launched an unprecedented airstrike against military facilities in Israel."

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has said that the attack was aimed at targeting 'specific targets'.

Israel pledges a response to attack

Israel pledged a response to the attack, which caused light damage to a military facility.

The United Nations and various countries condemned Iran's actions, expressing concerns about escalating regional tensions.

After the Iranian attack, Israel's Prime Minister called a meeting of the War Cabinet.

After this he spoke to US President Joe Biden on phone. Netanyahu said that America has reiterated its commitment to Israel's security.

After Iran released the drone, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the country's defense systems have been put to work.

“We are prepared for any kind of situation whether defensive or offensive. The nation of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The people are strong,” Israeli PM said.

Netanyahu said that along with America, he appreciates Britain, France and many other countries for supporting Israel.

Earlier this week, Israel's defense and foreign ministers warned that if Iran attacked Israel, it would retaliate inside Iran.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that some missiles have landed in Israel, causing minor damage to a military base and no casualties.

In another briefing, he said that Iran fired more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel overnight, of which 99 percent were shot down.

He said that some attacks have been carried out from Iraq and Yemen.

Daniel Hagari has said, “Iran has launched direct attacks on the Israeli nation from Iranian soil.”

“We are closely watching the killer drones that Iran is sending towards Israel. Israeli Air Force aircraft are ready to face any kind of threat in the air."

Iran summons British, French, German envoys

Iran on Sunday has summoned the British, French, and German ambassadors to question their “irresponsible” stance regarding Tehran's retaliatory strikes on Israel.

Earlier, Israel had said that France was among the countries involved in defending against Iran's overnight attack on Israel.

UN Security Council will hold emergency meeting

President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, said - “I am deeply concerned about the unfolding situation in the Middle East. I strongly call upon all parties to exercise the utmost restraint to avoid further escalation of tension in the region. I expect that the Iranian authorities will honour their word that by their action today, the matter can be deemed concluded."

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on April 14 at 4 pm (2000 GMT) over Iran's drone and missile attack on Israel, a diplomat said. This came after Israel urged the council to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a “terrorist organization.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the Iranian drone attack on Israel, while also calling for an immediate cessation of these hostilities between the two nations.
