Karnataka: HD Deve Gowda's Grandson Prajwal Revanna Faces Possible Party Expulsion Amid Sex Scandal

Bengaluru: there are strong indications that Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna might face expulsion from his grandfather HD Deve Gowda's party due to explicit videos allegedly depicting him engaging in sexual misconduct with several women. The Janata Dal (Secular), currently in alliance with the BJP for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, is expected to deliberate on this matter during a core committee meeting scheduled in Hubbali today.

Prajwal vehemently denies these accusations and has lodged a police complaint asserting that the circulating videos have been tampered with.

HD Kumaraswamy, leader of the JD(S) and Prajwal's uncle, declared yesterday that the party has already decided to suspend his nephew. "The decision has been made. Tomorrow, it will be formally recommended at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Due to his status as a Member of Parliament, the decision must be made from Delhi," stated Kumaraswamy.

A case involving allegations of sexual harassment and stalking was filed against Prajwal on Sunday. Additionally, the Karnataka government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which may visit Hassan, Prajwal's constituency in the Lok Sabha, and where he is contesting again this time, to investigate the allegations.

The circulation of these videos commenced following the Phase 2 voting on Friday, during which Hassan went to the polls. On Saturday, Prajwal departed for Germany, and the following day, he filed a police complaint asserting that the videos were "doctored" and disseminated to "sully his reputation and influence voters."

His father, HD Revanna, an MLA, has also accused political adversaries of orchestrating a conspiracy using "old videos."

Prajwal would be asked to return to India by SIT: Karnataka HM

Regarding reports of Prajwal leaving the country amid an ongoing investigation, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated yesterday that Prajwal would be asked to return to India by the SIT.

Nagalakshmi Choudhary, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, revealed that the pen drive she received contained numerous explicit videos, some of which purportedly featured the incumbent MP from Hassan.

The scandal has triggered Opposition criticism of the JD(S)'s partnership with the BJP, with the Congress targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, Kumaraswamy has distanced the BJP and PM Modi from the situation, stating that their coalition partner is not linked to the scandal.

The state BJP has distanced itself from the controversy, stating that it has no comments to offer on the SIT probe.

Apart from the sex scandal, Prajwal and his father also face allegations of sexually harassing their domestic help on multiple occasions between 2019 and 2022.
