MP Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Big jolt to Jitu Patwari-led Congress a week ahead of voting; Ramniwas Rawat joins BJP with 10000 supporters

MP Lok Sabha Elections 2024 witnessed a significant development as Ramniwas Rawat, a stalwart Congress MLA from Vijaypur, made a pivotal shift to the BJP along with his 10,000 supporters. This transition, occurring just a week prior to the voting, dealt yet another blow to the Jitu Patwari-led Congress in Madhya Pradesh.

In a public rally held in Sheopur, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state chief VD Sharma, and former home minister Narottam Mishra welcomed Rawat and Mayor Sharda Solanki into the BJP fold. Interestingly, Rawat's decision coincided with Rahul Gandhi's address in the neighboring Bhind district.

Ahead of the formal announcement, Rawat's supporters actively propagated his move on social media platforms, accompanied by the preparation of banners, posters, and hoardings.

Rawat's journey in politics has been formidable, having contested and won the Vijaypur assembly seat six times as a Congress MLA.

In the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Rawat was defeated by BJP candidate Seetaram, with a margin of 2,840 votes.

In 2019, Congress fielded Rawat from the Morena Lok Sabha seat; however, he was defeated by the BJP's Narendra Singh Tomar. This time too, he was hoping for the ticket, but the party pitted Satyapal Singh Sikarwar, alias Neetu Singh, from Morena. An upset Rawat decided to leave Congress.
