Lok Sabha Election 2024: What PM Modi said about Uniform Civil Code during poll rally in Himachal Pradesh


Lok Sabha Election 2024: While addressing a rally in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).


PM Modi said, "Modi has pledged to have a uniform civil code."


"A citizen of India, whether he is Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian or Buddhist, there should be uniform civil laws for them."


PM Modi said, "But Congress is opposing the Uniform Civil Code."


"Congress supports Sharia in the name of Muslim Personal Law. Does the country accept such a Congress?"


BJP has promised a uniform civil code in its manifesto released for the Lok Sabha elections.


Uniform Civil Code Bill was passed in the Uttarakhand Assembly in February this year. Uttarakhand has become the first state in India to pass the Uniform Civil Code Bill.


There is a BJP government in Uttarakhand under the leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami. Congress had opposed this bill of Uttarakhand government.


When this bill was introduced in the House, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that the BJP government is not understanding democracy and is killing constitutional values.
