Rajkot Gujarat Gaming Zone Fire: Man-made disaster, says High Court, asks Municipal Corporation how was permission given to gaming zone?

The death toll in the massive fire at TRP Game Zone in Rajkot, Gujarat has risen to 30. The deceased include many children. Gujarat High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of this accident. The hearing was held before the Special Bench of the High Court. 


The High Court said this is a man-made disaster. The bench of Justices Biren Vaishnav and Deven Desai of Gujarat High Court has heard this case. During the hearing, the court said that this is a man-made disaster. Along with the state government, all the municipal corporations were also summoned.


Rules not followed: HC


The court also said that the rules for the construction and operation of Gaming Zone have been ignored in Rajkot. The High Court also said that the gaming zones on Sindhu Bhawan Road, Sardar Patel Ring Road and SG Highway in Ahmedabad are a big threat to the safety of the general public. The High Court has sought clarification from Ahmedabad as well as Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot Municipal Corporations.


Gujarat government has announced the formation of SIT to investigate the incident. The responsibility of chairman of this five-member SIT has been handed over to CID Crime Director General of Police Subhash Trivedi.


SIT formed


SIT will submit its initial report to the government within 72 hours. It will also submit a detailed report to the government within 10 days.


The SIT will investigate these issues: Under what circumstances did the fire break out? Are gaming zones allowed or not? Has the gaming zone been constructed as per rules or not? Does the gaming zone have NOC from fire department or not? What was the arrangement for emergency exits in the gaming zone? What steps should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future?


Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Shanghvi reached the spot on Sunday morning and took stock of the area where a massive fire broke out inside the gaming zone.
