UP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Priyanka Gandhi said this in response to PM Modi's mujra remark

UP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "mujra" remark at a rally in Bihar today drew sharp criticism from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who asserted that the Prime Minister must maintain the decorum of his office.

Priyanka slammed Modi at a rally in Gorakhpur, UP with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Modi's remark, made while accusing the Opposition of engaging in vote bank politics, was also condemned by other leaders of the INDIA coalition. Mujra is a dance performance traditionally associated with courtesans.

During his rally, the Prime Minister reiterated his accusation that the INDIA bloc intends to strip backward classes of their rights in favor of Muslims, an allegation strongly denied by the Congress and its allies.

"Bihar, a land that has championed social justice, is where I declare that I will thwart the INDIA bloc's plans to deprive SCs, STs, and OBCs of their rights, diverting them to Muslims. They may continue to perform 'mujra' to please their vote bank," stated the Prime Minister.

Biharis are offended by anti-migrant remarks

Modi also claimed that Biharis are offended by anti-migrant remarks allegedly made by leaders from Congress in Punjab and Telangana, DMK in Tamil Nadu, and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. He further criticized Tejashwi Yadav's RJD, saying, "These RJD people, who keep doing 'mujra' with their lantern (poll symbol), lack the courage to speak out."

Modi accused the Opposition of planning to alter the Constitution if they come to power, a charge previously directed at the BJP by the Congress. "Their first action would be to amend the Constitution to prevent courts from overruling their attempts to shift reservations to Muslims. They have not refuted this in writing because they have a guilty conscience," he claimed.

Predicting a defeat for the INDIA bloc in the ongoing election, the Prime Minister said, "When the results are announced, RJD and Congress workers will turn against each other. The Congress royal family (referring to Gandhis) will blame Mallikarjun Kharge for the loss and then go on vacation abroad."

Modi must remember he represents the country: Priyanka

Responding to the Prime Minister's remarks, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said no Prime Minister should use such language.

"What is Modiji saying? Isn't it his duty to uphold the dignity of his office? We respect the Prime Ministerial office, but his true nature is now evident. He must remember he represents the country. What will future generations think?" she said at a rally in Gorakhpur with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Addressing the Prime Minister's claim that Congress plans to implement a wealth redistribution scheme targeting women's mangalsutras, Ms. Gandhi Vadra retorted, "One day, Modiji talks about buffaloes; the next, he talks about mangalsutras. The stray animal problem began under their rule."

She also noted that it is BJP candidates who are claiming that the party will change the Constitution if it retains power.

Priyanka said: BJP leaders do not talk about people's problems. The sixth round of voting is going on today. There is news of tremendous voting in support of the candidates of Congress and INDIA alliance. It is impossible for Modiji and BJP government to return to power.

Modi is using language that even his supporters find distasteful: Akhilesh

Tejashwi Yadav criticized the "mujra" remark, stating that the Prime Minister's language has deteriorated with each election phase. "He is using language that even his supporters find distasteful," he said.

"He denied permission, but our 17-month government conducted a caste-based survey and implemented 75 percent reservation. I challenge Modiji: which BJP-ruled state has 75 percent reservation?"
