Congress has announced the name of Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli seat and KL Sharma from Amethi. Voting will take place in Rae Bareli and Amethi on May 20.
Had Congress not given ticket to a member of Gandhi family from Rae Bareli, the fight would have ended even before the voting. In such a situation, the UP Congress Committee had asked the party high command to field a member of the Gandhi family from here. After a lengthy brainstorming, Congress has fielded Rahul from Rae Bareli. Whereas KL Sharma, close to the Gandhi family, will contest from Amethi, a traditional seat of the Gandhi family. In Amethi, BJP's Smriti Irani will face KL Sharma. So the election fight in Rae Bareli will be Dinesh Pratap Singh versus Rahul Gandhi.

On Rahul Gandhi contesting from Rae Bareli instead of Amethi, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "Rae Bareli has been the seat not only of Sonia ji, but of Indira Gandhi ji herself. This is not a legacy, it is a responsibility, it is a duty.”
Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, "Rahul Gandhi is an experienced player of politics and makes his moves thoughtfully."

‘Entire country is Gandhi family's stronghold’
Jairam Ramesh said, "As far as the Gandhi family's stronghold is concerned, not only Amethi-Rae Bareli, the entire country from north to south is the Gandhi family's stronghold. Rahul Gandhi became MP thrice from Uttar Pradesh and once from Kerala, but why couldn't Modiji muster the courage to go down and contest elections from Vindhyachal?
On Priyanka Gandhi not contesting the elections, Jairam Ramesh said, "Priyanka ji is campaigning vigorously and she alone is silencing Narendra Modi by answering every lie with the truth." That is why it was important that she should not have been limited to just one constituency. Priyanka ji will reach the House by contesting any by-election.

Congress party has made Kishori Lal Sharma its candidate from Amethi. In 2019, Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.
