UP: Teen Among 2 Dead After Fortuner in Convoy of Brij Bhushan Singh's Son Collides with Bike in Gonda

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh's Gonda today, two people, including a 17-year-old, were killed after a Toyota Fortuner SUV struck a bike. The SUV is part of the convoy of Karan Bhushan Singh, BJP candidate from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat and son of six-time MP and former wrestling chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh recently made national headlines after top wrestlers accused him of sexually harassing female athletes. A Delhi court has since framed charges against him. These allegations are believed to have cost him a poll ticket this election cycle, leading the BJP to field his son Karan, also involved in wrestling administration. Another of Brij Bhushan's sons, Pratik Bhushan Singh, is the MLA from the Gonda seat.

SUV had "police escort" written on its rear windscreen

Footage from the accident site shows the SUV with "police escort" written on its rear windscreen, indicating it was part of a VIP convoy. The vehicle, bearing the number UP32HW1800, is registered to Nandini Nagar Educational Institute, run by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's family.

Family members of the victims demand justice

According to the FIR, the complainant Chanda Begum stated that around 9 am today, her 17-year-old son Rehan and 24-year-old nephew Shahzad were riding a bike to purchase medicines when the speeding SUV hit them head-on. Both died at the scene. A 60-year-old woman, identified as Sita Devi, was injured and has been hospitalized. The accident drew a large crowd, with family members of the victims demanding justice.

Police have arrested the driver and impounded the SUV. It is not yet confirmed whether Karan Bhushan Singh was present in the convoy at the time of the accident. Senior police officer Radheysham Rai stated that the victims' bodies have been sent for autopsy and an investigation is ongoing.

Farman Khan, a relative of the victims, described the scene upon arrival. He said there was blood on the road and that the youngsters had been taken to the hospital. "Local residents told us Karan Bhushan Singh's convoy of 4-5 cars was passing through and the Fortuner hit the bike. When we reached the hospital, doctors told us our children were dead. Please get us justice. We are devastated," he said.
