Another Alia Bhatt Deepfake Goes Viral, What Fans Said?

New Delhi: Amid rising concern and outrage over deepfake videos, actor Alia Bhatt has once again become a target of this technology.

A new deepfake video of Alia Bhatt participating in the 'get ready with me' trend has surfaced on Instagram, showing her preparing in a black kurta and applying makeup. This is not the first instance of a deepfake involving Alia going viral on social media.

Previously, a deepfake video merged Alia Bhatt's face with actor Wamiqa Gabbi's, and another one depicted a woman with Alia's morphed face making obscene gestures.

Many Instagram users have voiced their concerns over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) following the release of the latest deepfake video. Comments ranged from "AI is getting dangerous day by day," to "I am getting scared of AI now." Another user expressed hope that consent was obtained for using AI with real human faces.

Deepfakes, synthetic media created using AI, utilize advanced algorithms to manipulate both visual and audio elements.

Celebrities such as Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Sara Tendulkar have also been victims of deepfake videos circulating online.

In response, the government has instructed intermediaries, including social media platforms like Instagram and X, to ensure users comply with the prohibited content rules under the IT Act to combat the rising trend of deepfakes.

The Centre has imposed stringent penalties for the creation and distribution of deepfakes, including a fine of Rs 1 lakh and up to three years in jail.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also raised concerns about the misuse of AI for creating deepfake videos, emphasizing the need for responsible use of technology.
