Bhopal: Alarming Rise in Tiger Deaths in Madhya Pradesh Sparks Outcry, Expert Ajay Dubey Demands Action, See Details

Bhopal-based tiger and wildlife expert Ajay Dubey has raised alarms over the deaths of 24 tigers in Madhya Pradesh over the last six months. Dubey has called for immediate action from the Forest Department. The most recent incident involved the discovery of a tiger's carcass in the Obaidullahganj forest area of Ratapani.

Dubey highlighted that Madhya Pradesh, known as the "Tiger State," has struggled with the highest number of tiger deaths and poaching incidents for the past 12 years. He criticized the Forest Department for its laxity, especially during the monsoon season, when tourist entry is prohibited, and vigilance should be heightened through patrolling and informer systems.

In light of recent cases in Obaidullaganj and Satpura, Dubey pointed out the evident negligence of forest department officers. He has demanded that the government take action against Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) level officers. According to Dubey, the safety of tigers is undoubtedly being compromised due to the lack of diligence among wildlife officers, which in turn has emboldened poachers.

The maximum number of 12 tiger deaths has occurred in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The possibility of poaching has also been raised in the case of increasing tiger deaths in Bandhavgarh. This was revealed by the Forest Department committee.

Dubey's call to action underscores the urgent need for the Forest Department to adopt stricter measures to protect the tiger population in Madhya Pradesh.

Tiger cubs serious: Dubey

Meanwhile, Dubey has expressed deep concern at the death of one tiger cub and grievous injury to two others when they were hit by a train.

On July 15, a tiger cub died and  two others were injured after colliding with train at Midghat near Budhni railway station in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to Ranger Mahipal Singh, tiger cubs collided with train on the third railway line near Budhni railway station. Forest team reached the spot after getting information about the incident.

Singh said that many wild animals have died after colliding with train. In view of this, the central government had earlier asked the forest department to install fencing along the tracks of the train. But till date the work of installing mesh fencing between the tracks and the forest has not been done. Due to this, accidents with wild animals keep happening every day.

Ajay Dubey said, "Railway was careless about speed. The maximum speed on Budhni railway line was 20 km but this did not happen, there was water on the under pass. The government should take action against the loco pilot. Railway pilots should be trained."

Special one-coach train was run to bring the injured big cats

Meanwhile, a special one-coach train was run to bring the injured cubs to Bhopal. Considering their condition, treatment was not possible in Sehore where the accident took place. It was necessary to immediately admit both of them to the Wildlife Hospital Bhopal for treatment.

Sehore Collector Praveen Singh, seeing the seriousness of the situation, contacted the senior railway officials in Bhopal and demanded help in this regard. Senior railway officials decided to send a special one-coach train to the incident site Midghat in Budhni on Tuesday morning. A special one-coach train was sent to bring the injured cubs to Bhopal and Collector Praveen Singh also left from Bhopal in the train along with the train. The cubs were brought to Bhopal by train and admitted to the wildlife hospital of Van Vihar.
