Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is actively working to resolve it. The IT system failure notably impacted Sydney Airport and United Airlines operations, causing significant delays and cancellations.
The work of airlines, TV telecast, banking and many corporate companies has been affected worldwide. There is a problem in check-in and ticket booking at airports around the world, including India, due to which flights are either getting delayed or cancelled.
In Hyderabad and Bangalore, most corporate companies are said to be under virus attack. Systems are restarting after getting blue screen. Many companies in Hyderabad have asked their employees to turn off the system for the next 2 hours.
Air services were affected in India
In India, Delhi's airport reported on Twitter that some of its services were affected by the global IT crisis. The airport is coordinating with partners to mitigate passenger inconvenience. Similarly, Air India confirmed that its systems were temporarily affected by the Microsoft server issue and apologized to passengers for the disruption.
In India, 5 airlines - Indigo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, Vistara and Air India Express said that their booking, check-in and flight update service has been affected by this technical problem. People are getting upset due to non-availability of services at the airport.
IndiGo Airlines noted increased wait times at airports due to the server problem, while SpiceJet reported difficulties in providing updates on flight statuses and assured efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
Global flights suspended
Major U.S. airlines, including United, Delta, and American Airlines, have suspended global flights, except for those already in the air. In the UK, train companies faced potential operational halts due to significant IT problems. One major train company warned of severe disruptions.
Check-in processes at Berlin Airport were disrupted, and Spanish airports also reported IT issues. Sky News in the UK went off-air, and Australia’s Telstra telecommunications services experienced interruptions.
Emergency phone services in USA affected
Emergency phone services in Alaska, USA, were affected, with state police announcing on Facebook that call center operations were down statewide. The London Stock Exchange also reported technical problems.
