Bhopal: Monsoon is active in Madhya Pradesh these days. The water level of the Upper Lake in the capital Bhopal is increasing due to continuous rain. The Upper Lake level increased by 1.30 feet in 24 hours. The level is continuously increasing as the Kolans river is flowing 3 feet above the level.
Now Upper Lake is less than two and a half feet less than its full tank level (FTL). It has 1664.50 feet of water till Saturday afternoon. The FTL is 1666.80 feet. When it is full, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam will be opened. Since the lake is filling up rapidly, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (MNC) officers are keeping an eye on its level.
Heavy showers have been lashing Bhopal since Saturday morning. The roads of the city have also been uprooted due to continuous rain.
It has been raining heavily in Bhopal for two days. More than 4 cm of rainfall has been recorded in 24 hours. This has also created a situation of water-logging at many places.
Due to continuous rain, the day and night temperature has also dropped. The maximum temperature on Friday was 25.9 degrees. At night, the mercury was recorded at 24.4 degrees Celsius.
It is worth noting that this time the monsoon entered Bhopal on 23 June. Since then, the rainy season is continuing. Due to this, more than half the rain has occurred in a month. The total normal rainfall in Bhopal is 94 cm. In comparison, more than 55 cm of rainfall has occurred so far. This is about 55 percent of the season. Bhopal is expected to receive 106 percent of normal rainfall this year.
Level of Betwa river rises, temples of Charan Tirtha Ghat in Vidisha submerged
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Vidisha district due to continuous rain for three days, the water level of Betwa river has increased and the temples located at Charan Tirtha Ghat have completely submerged in water.
It has been raining continuously for three days in Vidisha district. Water has filled all around the flooded Ganesh temple. The way to the cremation ground has also been closed. Water-logging has been observed in many low-lying areas of the city. There is also seepage in the roofs of old buildings of government schools. Water is also filled at some places on the roads of the city.
The Betwa river in the district is slowly moving towards its danger mark. People are facing a lot of trouble due to water-logging in the areas around the river. The district administration has made arrangements to deal with the flood situation. The rain control room is also keeping an eye on the entire district 24 hours a day.
Meteorologists have predicted heavy rainfall in Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Sagar, Jabalpur, Sheopurkalan, Shivpuri, Burhanpur, Betul, Khandwa, Harda, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Anuppur, Umaria, Shahdol, Katni, Sidhi, Sagar, Narsinghpur. Moderate rainfall may occur in the remaining districts.
