Droupadi Murmu, marking her two-year tenure as President of India today, took on the role of a teacher by engaging with students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi. During this interaction, she addressed critical issues such as global warming and proposed various methods for environmental conservation.
Born on June 20, 1958, in Uparbeda village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, Murmu took over as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022. Before her presidency, she served as the governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.
While speaking to a group of Class 9 students, President Murmu emphasized the importance of water conservation and afforestation as essential measures to address climate change. "We should plant more trees and take steps to reduce water wastage, including practices like rainwater harvesting," she advised the students. She also discussed air pollution, exploring practical solutions to mitigate its impacts.
"I truly enjoyed our interaction. I learned a lot from all of you. You are in Class 9 and already aware of the effects of global warming. I am confident that as you grow up, you will contribute to reducing its impact," President Murmu remarked.
In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, she encouraged the students to plant a tree on their birthdays, highlighting the importance of individual actions in environmental preservation.
