Rahul Gandhi writes to Lok Sabha Speaker on removal of parts of his speech, see details

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing concern over the removal of parts of his speech in the House.

Rahul Gandhi said that the "selective removal" of the speech is beyond logic and parts of his statement should not be removed.

In his first speech as the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi fiercely attacked the way the BJP does politics. He said that the BJP 'spreads hatred and violence in the name of religion' among the people.

Parts of what he said in his speech have been removed from the record of the proceedings of the House.

On this, Gandhi wrote a letter to Speaker Om Birla and said that the Speaker has the power to remove the speech from the record of the proceedings of the House. But only those words or statements can be removed which are mentioned in Rule 380 of the Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Lok Sabha.

Portions that have been removed do not fall under the purview of Rule 380: Rahul

Rahul wrote- "I am surprised to see how a large part of my speech was removed from the proceedings. The portions that have been removed do not fall under the purview of Rule 380. What I wanted to tell the House is the ground reality and factually correct. Every member of the House who represents the voice of the people has freedom of expression under Article 105 (1) of the Constitution of India."

He said that it is the duty of every member to raise the voice of the people on the floor. In his speech, Rahul Gandhi talked about religion, inflation, Agniveer Yojana, NEET paper leak case and farmers' issues.
