A new interim government has come into existence in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country.
After thia, reports of attacks on the minority Hindu community and their temples in Bangladesh had surfaced.
The statements made by the interim government regarding these attacks and the safety of minority communities suggest a serious commitment to addressing the concerns of the minority population.
On Monday, Home Affairs Advisor in the interim government Sakhawat Hussain apologized to the minorities with folded hands. On Tuesday, Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus reached the famous Dhakeshwari temple in Dhaka and interacted with Hindu community and promised protection to them.
Later, Yuva Ekta Parishad, Dhaka's General Secretary Vishnu Soor said that the interim government has assured that it is with us.
'Truth behind the violence will be revealed'
Vishnu Soor said, "They have assured us that the truth behind the violence that occurred throughout the country will be revealed. Additionally, they have promised that the interim government stands with us and can be contacted at any time. It is unbelievable what has happened in Bangladesh.”
However, Soor also said, “Ever since 1971, whenever there is a change of power, we are the first to be attacked. All political parties vent their anger on us. I don’t understand why this happens to us. All parties say that they are with us but till date no crime against us has been seriously investigated.”
'No one is punished for all these crimes'
He said, “Temples burn, churches burn, shops of Hindus burn, girls are kidnapped… but no one is punished for all these crimes. Don’t punish us, we are all Bangladeshis, this country is ours.”
Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of the Minority Community Council in Bangladesh and a human rights activist, said, “Our organisation has given an application to Mohammad Yunus.”
Another leader said, "Yunus has said something important. He said at the outset that we aim to create a system where there will never again be a need for guard outside the temple."
He said furtewr, "We hope that his statements translate into tangible actions. Yunus emphasized the need to return to the fundamental principles of the Constitution, which is absolutely correct. We expressed the importance of moving away from a culture of thoughtlessness, and he concurred with our viewpoint."
