President Droupadi Murmu, who went on a state visit to Timor-Leste, has been honoured with the country's highest civilian award, the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, by President Jose Ramos-Horta.
Murmu has been given this award for her achievements in public service and dedication towards education, social welfare and women's empowerment.
Droupadi Murmu reached Dili on the last leg of her three-nation visit. On reaching President’s Palace, she was welcomed in a traditional manner and given a guard of honour.
Later, the two presidents held bilateral talks, in which IT, digitalisation, health and medicine, agriculture and capacity building were discussed. Droupadi Murmu also held talks with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
Murmu is the first Indian head of state to visit Timor-Leste. Earlier, Mr. Horta received her at the airport. The children of Timor-Leste also accorded warm welcome to Murmu.
