Israel-Hamas Conflict: Rising Tensions Prompt Global Evacuations from Lebanon

Israel-Hamas Conflict: In response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, the US Embassy in Beirut has urged American citizens to leave Lebanon immediately using any available flight. This follows a similar warning from Britain's Foreign Minister, David Lammy, who cautioned that the regional situation could worsen rapidly.

The heightened tension began with the recent killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which has led Iran to threaten retaliation against Israel. This news came shortly after Israel announced the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut.

Hezbollah launched multiple rockets into northern Israel

On Sunday night, Hezbollah launched multiple rockets into northern Israel's Bet Hillel area, though the air defense system successfully intercepted them, and no casualties have been reported.

Jordan's Foreign Minister has also advised its citizens to evacuate Lebanon promptly. The conflict has intensified as Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah vow severe retaliation for the deaths of their leaders, attributed to Israel, raising concerns of a broader regional conflict.

Hezbollah has been engaged in frequent cross-border exchanges with Israeli forces since October, citing support for Hamas. The group has now targeted northern Israeli settlements with Katyusha rockets and plans to strike deeper into Israel, beyond military sites.

US, UK, and France ask their citizens to leave Lebanon

In response, the US, UK, and France have told their citizens to leave Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement operates, and airlines have suspended flights. Canada has advised against travel to Israel due to the ongoing conflict, which poses significant security risks.

Indian nationals in Israel are urged to remain vigilant

The Indian government has also issued advisories: Indian nationals in Israel are urged to remain vigilant, while those in Lebanon are advised to leave the country.

Pentagon is increasing its military presence in the Middle East

The Pentagon is increasing its military presence in the Middle East to safeguard US personnel and support Israel. President Joe Biden has expressed concern over the rising tensions and hopes Iran will de-escalate, though he acknowledges the situation is highly volatile.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of severe consequences for any acts of aggression, stating that the country is prepared for all scenarios. Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with the UN reporting deteriorating public health conditions and widespread displacement of the population.
