Maharashtra Sikh Association Calls for Action Against Kangana Ranaut Starrer Film Emergency

The Maharashtra Sikh Association (MSA) has raised concerns regarding the upcoming film “Emergency,” directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut. Reports indicate that the film contains content that is profoundly offensive and derogatory towards the Sikh community. The portrayal of Sikh characters and the distortion of historical events within the film are not only inaccurate but also deeply hurtful to Sikhs worldwide, said MSA.

The Sikh community has a rich history rooted in values such as justice, equality, and truth. Any attempt to misrepresent this history or disrespect our culture is an affront to the Sikh community and the principles of truth and respect that are cherished by all, says Maharashtra Sikh Association.

In light of these concerns, the MSA has appealed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to urgently review and reconsider the release of “Emergency.”

"We urge the board to ensure that films promoting negative stereotypes and distorting historical facts do not receive certification," said MSA in a statement.

"Furthermore, we call upon the Sikh community in Maharashtra and across the nation, along with all individuals who advocate for justice and truth, to boycott this film. Supporting platforms that disseminate harmful content against our faith is unacceptable," said MSA.

MSA will consider all legal avenues to protect the dignity of community

The MSA statement further said, "While we acknowledge the importance of freedom of expression, it is crucial that this freedom is exercised responsibly, particularly when addressing sensitive historical and religious topics. Filmmakers have a responsibility to approach these subjects with care and integrity, ensuring their work does not cause harm or incite negative sentiments.

Should the authorities fail to take appropriate action, the Maharashtra Sikh Association will consider all legal avenues to protect the dignity of our community and prevent harmful content from causing division."

We urge all Sikh organizations, community leaders, and members to unite with us in this appeal. Together, let us send a clear message that the Sikh community will not tolerate any attempts to defame our faith or misrepresent our history.
