Paris Olympics-2024: Indian wins hockey bronze, defeats Spain, PM Modi greets Indian Hockey team


The Indian hockey team has won the bronze medal of the Paris Olympics-2024. Team India defeated Spain 2-1. Both the goals were scored by captain Harmanpreet Singh. He is also the top scorer of the tournament with 10 goals.


This bronze medal match of the Olympics was the last international match of goalkeeper Sreejesh. He had announced his retirement even before the Olympics.


Sreejesh saved 11 penalty corners in the quarter-final match against Britain. This match went to penalty shootout, in this too he made 2 brilliant saves.


The Indian team has won the second consecutive bronze medal in the Olympics. In Tokyo, India won the bronze by defeating Germany.


The Indian team has won the 13th medal in hockey in the Olympic Games. This is the team's fourth bronze medal. Earlier, the team has won 8 gold and one silver.


India has won bronze in hockey in two consecutive Olympic Games after 52 years. Earlier, the Indian hockey team had won two consecutive medals in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics.


PM Modi greets


The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the Indian Hockey team for winning a Bronze Medal at the ongoing Olympics in Paris, France. 


Shri Modi praised their skill, perseverance and team spirit. 


The Prime Minister posted on X:

The Indian Hockey team shines bright at the Olympics, bringing home the Bronze Medal! This is even more special because it is their second consecutive Medal at the Olympics. 


Their success is a triumph of skill, perseverance and team spirit. They showed immense grit and resilience. Congratulations to the players. 


Every Indian has an emotional connect with Hockey and this accomplishment will make the sport even more popular among the youth of our nation."
