PV Sindhu's journey at the Paris Olympics 2024 came to an unexpected end on Thursday as she was defeated by China's He Bing Jiao in the Round of 16. The Indian shuttler, a double Olympic medallist, lost the match 19-21, 14-21. Throughout the game, Sindhu was consistently pressured by He Bing Jiao, preventing her from finding a rhythm.
This defeat was particularly notable given their history; Sindhu had triumphed over He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Despite this setback, Sindhu's Olympic career remains distinguished, with a silver medal from Rio 2016 and a bronze from Tokyo 2020.
Since badminton's inclusion in the Olympics in 1992, India has secured three medals in the sport, thanks to Sindhu's achievements and Saina Nehwal's bronze at the London 2012 Games.
Lakshya Sen in quarterfinal
Meanwhile, Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen has achieved an important milestone in the Paris Olympics-2024.
He has reached the quarter-finals of the Olympics by defeating compatriot HS Prannoy 21-12, 21-6 in the Round of 16.
He is only the third player to reach the quarter-finals of badminton in the Olympics.
Earlier, only Parupalli Kashyap in the London Olympics in 2012 and Kidambi Srikanth in the Rio 2016 Olympics have reached the quarter-finals.
So far, no Indian has reached the men's singles semi-final match in the Olympics. Lakshya Sen is participating in the Olympics for the first time.
In the quarter-finals, on August 2, he will face Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan. This match will start at 6:30 pm Indian time.
