Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go on an official visit to Ukraine this week. India's Foreign Ministry has given this information in a press conference.
First visit by an Indian PM to Poland in past 45 years
Before visiting Ukraine, PM Narendra Modi will visit Poland on 21-22 August 2024. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in the past 45 years.
PM Modi will be accorded a ceremonial welcome in Warsaw. He will call on President Andrzej Sebastian Duda and will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. PM will also interact with the Indian community in Poland.
First visit by an Indian PM to Ukraine
Thereafter, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine after establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992.
Prime Minister's engagements in Kyiv will touch a range of aspects of bilateral ties including political, trade, economic, investments, education , cultural, people-to-people exchanges, humanitarian assistance and others. Prime Minister will also interact with Indian community, including students during the visit. PM's landmark visit to Ukraine will help further consolidation and expansion of bilateral ties.
An important and historic visit
Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal said, "This is also an important and historic visit, as it marks the first time in over 30 years of the establishment of our diplomatic ties. This will be the first time that an Indian Prime Minister will visit Ukraine."
India's position clear on Russia-Ukraine conflict
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Tanmay Lal said, "India has maintained a very clear and consistent position. This conflict can be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue. This will lead to a permanent settlement of the conflict." "Dialogue is extremely important for peace to be established."
"Durable peace can only be achieved through options that are acceptable to both sides and can only be resolved through dialogue," he said.
Lal said "India stands ready to provide all possible assistance and contribution to help find a peaceful solution to this complex issue. At this stage, it is not right for us to speculate or predict what will happen in these discussions between the leaders of India and Ukraine," he said.
President's Office of Ukraine makes announcement
The President's Office of Ukraine has officially announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the country. This visit, which coincides with Ukraine's National Flag Day on August 23, marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between India and Ukraine. It will be the first time an Indian Prime Minister has made an official visit to Ukraine, highlighting the growing importance of ties between the two nations.
