Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on a medal after reaching the final of the Paris Olympics-2024, came out of the Delhi airport at 10:30 am today.
While coming out of the airport and even after that, Vinesh remained emotional and tears kept coming out of her eyes. As soon as Vinesh came out of the airport, she hugged her mother and started crying.
Hundreds of people including Olympic medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik, wrestler Bajrang Punia and Congress MP Deepender Hooda had gathered at the airport to welcome Vinesh.
Vinesh's achievement much bigger than medal
Olympic medalist Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, who came to welcome Vinesh, while talking to the media said, "Vinesh Phogat's achievement is much bigger than the medal. Today is a big day for Indian sports, Vinesh is the first girl from the country who has reached the final of the Olympics in wrestling."
Sakshi Malik said, "Today is a big day, what Vinesh has done for India, what she has done for women is excellent."
Sakshi said, "I just hope that you people will give her love and respect. She has defeated a wrestler who has never lost, so she is a champion for us. This is not a political journey but it is a welcome for a wrestler and a champion."
On the question of the presence of Congress leaders and farmers' organizations, Sakshi said that today we are just welcoming the champion, politics should not be seen in this. Sakshi said, "Vinesh is a real champion, she has returned after defeating a wrestler who had never lost in wrestling till date."
Vinesh thanked the countrymen
As soon as she came out of the airport, Vinesh thanked the countrymen. Vinesh said that 'I am lucky.'
In another statement, Vinesh said, "Life is a struggle and our fight is not over yet, our fight is still left." Bajrang Punia, who came to welcome Vinesh, said, "Vinesh is a champion, that is why she is being welcomed like a champion. Getting a medal or not is a matter of luck. But the journey she has made from the road to the podium has been seen by the whole country."
Sakshi Malik said, "Very few people can do what Vinesh has done for the country. I just want Vinesh to get maximum respect. The Government of India provided full support for the medal."
Vinesh's brother Harinder Punia, who was present at the airport, said, "People are reaching the airport to welcome Vinesh. People in the village and Haryana are eager to meet Vinesh. All preparations are being made to welcome Vinesh in the village."
We are not disheartened: Harinder Punia
Harinder Punia said, "Unfortunately, Vinesh could not achieve the position she had achieved. The pain of not getting the medal will always be there. Even though we are sad, we are not disheartened. One day we will conquer the Olympic podium with a medal."
Vinesh and the people who came to welcome her have left the airport for her native village Charkhi Dadri.
