Rajasthan: Section 144 imposed in Udaipur, many main markets remain closed amidst arson and stone pelting, check updates


On Friday morning, tension spread in Udaipur, Rajasthan due to a dispute between two students of a government school. Both the students are minors.


This dispute started when one student stabbed another student during lunch break in the school. The injured student was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.


People angry with the incident closed the shops of Chetak Circle, Hathipol, Ashwini Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and Ghantaghar area and protested.


Sec 144 imposed


Section 144 has been imposed in Udaipur city after the stabbing incident. Amidst the deteriorating atmosphere in the city, Collector Arvind Poswal has imposed Section 144 to maintain peace in the city. He has also appealed to the people to maintain peace and has ordered strict action against those who disturb law and order. Internet ban has been imposed in Udaipur city.


At the same time, due to arson and stone pelting in the city, many main markets remained closed and prohibitory orders had to be imposed in some areas.


During the protest that started after the incident, many vehicles were set on fire and stones were pelted. A large number of people gathered outside the hospital as well.


On the Udaipur incident, Rajasthan's Additional Director General of Police (ADGP Law and Order) Vishal Bansal said, "After the incident that happened in Udaipur, some miscreants created a ruckus in the city. As soon as we got information about this, we provided assistance to the Udaipur police."


Situation is under control: ADG


According to the ADG, "As soon as the incident happened in the morning, two companies of RAC (Rajasthan Armed Constabulary) were provided. Along with this, officers from nearby districts like Rajsamand and Chittorgarh who are familiar with Udaipur have also been deployed in the city."


The ADG said that the situation is under control right now. When the crowd was returning from the spot, some miscreants did something, after which the police is present everywhere, our force has also reached. We have also arranged for additional force.


Amidst the deteriorating atmosphere in the city, Collector Arvind Poswal has imposed Section 144 to maintain peace in the city. He has also appealed to the people to maintain peace and has ordered strict action against those who disturb law and order. 


Poswal said, "The injured student is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable. At the same time, the student who stabbed has been detained. In such a situation, people should not pay attention to rumors and maintain peace in the city. Police have been deployed in the city for security."


Reacting to this incident, former CM Ashok Gehlot has appealed to the people to maintain peace.


He issued a statement saying, "The situation of communal tension in Udaipur is worrying. I appeal to people of all sections to maintain peace and not pay attention to rumours."


CM seekst report from Minister of State for Home and DGP


Earlier, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has sought a report from Minister of State for Home and DGP regarding the violence that broke out in Udaipur after a dispute between school students. Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham has informed the CM about the incident. After taking feedback, the CM gave necessary instructions to the officials for peace and order.


On receiving information about this incident, Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat, MLA Tarachand Jain, MLA Phool Singh Meena, social worker Pramod Samar and many intellectuals reached the hospital. Where these people instructed the doctors to provide better and quick treatment to the injured student. Also, the general public has been urged not to pay attention to rumors.
