22 coaches of train number 19168 Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur in UP. According to North Central Railway, Sabarmati Express 19168, which operates between Varanasi Junction and Ahmedabad, derailed after striking a boulder.
According to officials, no passenger was injured in this incident. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has also shared a statement on the accident through X post.
Ashwini Vaishnav wrote that the engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad) collided with an object placed on the track near Kanpur at 02:35 am today and derailed.
The Railway Minister said that marks of a strong collision have been found on the engine. All evidence has been preserved. IB and UP Police are also working on it.
He wrote, "There were no injuries to passengers or staff. Train arrangements have been made for the passengers to travel further to Ahmedabad."
While talking about the accident, DRM Deepak Kumar of Jhansi Division, Kanpur said, "The coaches have derailed in this accident but there have been no casualties. We have sent the passengers to Kanpur. A train is also ready in Kanpur, passengers will be sent to their destination through it. According to the driver's statement, it has come to light that something hit the engine."
According to Kanpur's ADM City Rakesh Verma, "22 coaches of the train have derailed. However, there have been no casualties. People have been sent to Kanpur station by buses."
While explaining the reason for the accident, the railways have informed that according to the driver, this accident happened due to the engine hitting a boulder.
The railways have issued helpline numbers for the assistance of passengers. Also, some trains have been cancelled and some have been diverted.
