Weather: Cloudburst in J&K; red alert for heavy rain in MP-Rajasthan, see details & IMD predictions


A sudden flood occurred in the Kangan area of Ganderbal district in Jammu and Kashmir on the night of Saturday, August 3, following a cloudburst. Numerous vehicles were buried under debris, and several houses sustained damage. The Srinagar-Leh National Highway has been closed, isolating the Kashmir Valley from Ladakh.


Additionally, the Srinagar-Sonmarg-Gumuri road near Padwabal and the route to the Baltal base camp for the Amarnath Yatra are also closed. As of now, there have been no reports of any loss of life.


Alert for heavy rain in MP-Rajasthan


On the other hand, IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan today (Sundy). Heavy rain has been continuing in Madhya Pradesh for the last 3 days. Due to this, 10 big dams have been full. Since the entry of monsoon in the state on June 21, 58% total rainfall of the season i.e. 55 cm of rainfall has occurred so far. This is 7 cm more than normal.


Rajasthan has received 21% more rain so far in the monsoon season. The state usually receives an average rainfall of 231.3MM from June 1 to August 3, while this season it has received 280.6MM rainfall so far.



Red alert for very heavy rain in these 4 dists of MP


The Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rain in Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch and Guna districts today i.e. on Sunday. Red alert has been issued regarding for these 4 districts. The administration has also come on alert mode in these districts.


Orange alert in these MP dists including Ujjain-Dewas


According to the Meteorological Department, a period of heavy rain will be seen in the state during the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Sehore, Rajgarh, Khargone, Barwani, Ujjain, Dewas, Agar, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Sheopur and Sagar districts. Orange alert has been issued in these districts.


Yellow alert for heavy rain in these dists including Bhopal-Indore


Heavy rain is also expected in Bhopal, Indore, Vidisha, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, and Niwari districts. Yellow alert has been issued in these districts. At the same time, light rain may occur in other areas of the state. 


Rescue-search continues on the fourth day of cloudburst in Himachal


114 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh due to cloudburst incidents in the last few days. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in the state till August 7 and has issued a yellow alert. 79 people have died in rain, floods and landslides in the state between June 27 and August 1.


9 people died due to cloudburst in Samej of Rampur on August 1. 45 people are missing. Rescue and search operations are continuing for the fourth day on Sunday (August 4) to search for them. The Indian Army has built a temporary bridge to reach the affected areas.


Commandant Home Guard RP Nepta said that JCB is also being used to remove debris and rocks. NDRF, CISF and Indian Army are present at the spot. So far 3 bodies have been recovered, but they have not been identified. According to the information so far, 36 people are missing here.
