The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections-2024, adding 21 more names. With this addition, the party has now announced 87 candidates out of the 90 seats in the state assembly.
Among the notable candidates, the BJP has fielded Captain Yogesh Bairagi to contest against Olympian Vinesh Phogat, who is running on a Congress ticket from the Julana constituency.
In its first list of 67 candidates, the BJP named Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the Ladwa seat, moving him from Karnal. Saini previously served as the Member of Parliament for Kurukshetra from 2019 to 2024. Other prominent figures in the first list include former state BJP president Om Prakash Dhankar, currently a national secretary for the party, who will be contesting from Badli. Veteran BJP leader and former state minister Anil Vij is set to run from his established stronghold of Ambala Cantt.
The BJP has also extended tickets to several political figures who have recently joined the party. Devender Singh Babli, formerly of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), will contest from Tohana. Shruti Choudhry, a recent entrant to the BJP and granddaughter of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, will run from Tosham.
Additionally, Aarti Singh Rao, daughter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, has been given the ticket for the Ateli seat, reflecting the party's strategy to strengthen its position in south Haryana.
As the state assembly polls are scheduled for October 5, the BJP is targeting a third consecutive victory in Haryana. However, it faces significant competition from a revitalized Congress. The votes will be counted on October 8, determining the future leadership of the state.
