Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria has indicated that Vinesh Phogat, who joined the party on Friday, may contest from Julana seat.
Responding to questions from reporters about this, he said, "I think Vinesh will contest from Julana. It seems it has been decided."
On the question of Bajrang Punia contesting the election, he said, "I do not have any information about this. Maybe he has talked to Congress General Secretary Venugopal ji." He said that no MP has been allowed to contest assembly elections in Haryana yet.
Vinesh Phogat took membership of the party on Friday in the presence of senior Congress members. However, even before this, speculations were being made that Congress could field Vinesh Phogat from any assembly seat in Haryana.
Vinesh Phogat missed out on winning a medal in the Paris Paralympics. She was disqualified even after reaching the finals in the 50 kg weight category due to being just 100 grams overweight.
Vinesh's connection with Julana is through her husband
Actually, Vinesh's connection with Julana is through her husband Somveer, who belongs to Bakhta Kheda village of Julana constituency. Sources say that Vinesh's family has also started visiting the area and is trying to garner support from the local people by going from village to village.
Julana seat is Jat dominated
Julana is considered an important seat in the Jat dominated area. In the last election, Amarjeet Dhanda of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won from here. From 2009 to 2019, this seat was with Parminder Singh of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
