Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Why Sharad Pawar is Confident Ajit Pawar will not return? What He Said about Supriya Sule as CM & His Meeting with Eknath Shinde?

Preparations for the assembly elections in Maharashtra are in full swing. Although the dates have yet to be announced, various parties and alliances are actively engaging with the public, presenting their claims and promises.

In this context, Sharad Pawar, the national president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) expressed his disappointment over Ajit Pawar's departure from the party but stated that he is now confident Ajit will not return. Sharad Pawar explained that Ajit left in pursuit of power, which he attained, leading to a lack of faith in his potential return.

Ajit Pawar, Sharad's nephew, had separated from the NCP and joined the BJP-led alliance. This dramatic political shift occurred on July 2 of the previous year when nine NCP MLAs, including Ajit, joined the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) government. Following this, the Ajit Pawar faction contested the Lok Sabha elections under the BJP banner.

Recently, Ajit Pawar made headlines with two statements, one of which acknowledged his 'mistake' in fielding Sunetra Pawar against Supriya Sule. When asked if the doors would be open for Ajit Pawar to rejoin, Sharad Pawar's response revealed his lingering disappointment.

Sharad Pawar said that Ajit and his associates were elected on the NCP's ticket and had fought the elections under its banner. "They went to the government, became ministers too. In such a situation, why would they consider returning?" he questioned, expressing a complete lack of trust in their possible return.

Sharad Pawar further lamented the actions of those he once mentored. He said it feels disheartening when people he helped chose to separate after years of association. He remarked, "This is politics, so we have to face all this, find a way out."

Can Supriya Sule become the CM?

The Mahavikas Aghadi coalition often finds itself in discussions regarding the potential face of the Chief Minister, given the presence of several prominent leaders. Speculation has circulated around various candidates.

Sharad Pawar has refrained from naming a specific person, stating that the decision will be made in a meeting after the elections, once the results are in favor of the alliance. He believes it is premature to discuss this matter at the moment.

When asked if Supriya Sule could become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar indicated that her focus is more on central politics rather than state-level issues.

He said, "Two factors are crucial: first, we need the numbers to secure the Chief Minister position, and currently, we must assess where our party stands in that regard. Second, every individual has their own interests. In Supriya's case, I believe she is more inclined toward national politics."

Pawar pointed out Supriya's impressive attendance record in parliament, which exceeds 90 percen. He said people tend to find fulfillment in their areas of interest. Therefore, he does not see it as appropriate to shift her focus to another role.

'Not all actions are taken purely based on political considerations'

On a recent meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Sharad Pawar emphasized that not all actions are taken purely based on political considerations. He acknowledged that every government faces challenges and that public reactions are essential to address. "I myself am an MP. I travel all over the state. Different types of people meet me. They put their problems. Whatever is in my hands, I try to solve it," he said.
