Maharashtra: Badlapur sexual harassment case accused dies in encounter, what did CM Eknath Shinde say?


Police in Maharashtra said that Akshay Shinde, accused in a case of sexual harassment of two girls in a school in Badlapur, has died.


Police say that the accused Akshay Shinde was being taken from Taloja hospital by the police, when he snatched the gun and tried to commit suicide.


Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Jadhav told media that Akshay Shinde died in the firing that followed. After the firing, Akshay Shinde was taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa.


Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued a statement on this incident.


He told the media, "Akshay Shinde, who was accused in Badlapur, was being taken for investigation today. His first wife had filed a case of sexual assault against him. Therefore, he was being taken for investigation."


"He fired at API Nilesh More. Nilesh More is injured. After this, the police took action to protect themselves. This is the only information received at the moment."


What is the matter


On August 16, in Badlapur, Maharashtra, the parents of one of the victim girls had come to the police station to register a case.


The family alleges that even after waiting for several hours, they were not heard. After this, many people gathered there. The protesters had claimed that the girl's parents were made to wait for 12 hours.


The girl's parents and local women started protesting against this on August 20, which later turned violent.
