Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United (JDU) National President Nitish Kumar has appointed Shyam Rajak as the national general secretary of the party. Rajak, who recently transitioned from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to JDU, was known to be close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Reportedly dissatisfied with the RJD since the recent Lok Sabha elections, Rajak officially joined JDU on September 1. At that time Shyam Rajak had accused RJD chief Lalu Yadav of nepotism. Apart from this, the party has appointed Arun Kumar as the co-incharge of Jharkhand.
A prominent leader within RJD, he has served multiple terms as an MLA and held ministerial positions in the Bihar government. There is speculation that he may run for the upcoming assembly elections on a JDU ticket.
Earlier, Shyam Rajak had praised Nitish Kumar and said that a lot of development is taking place in the whole of Bihar under his leadership. It is a privilege to work with him.
Shyam Rajak started his decades-long political career with the Rashtriya Janata Dal. However, after several years he joined Nitish's party JDU. Later, just before the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, he returned to RJD. In this assembly election, he was expected to contest from the Phulwari Sharif assembly seat on an RJD ticket, but RJD did not give him a ticket.
