Mumbai: Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has said that if the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comes to power in the upcoming Maharashtra elections, it will turn the women's 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' into a rights-based program. He was answering questions at a private event. During this, on the question of MVA's CM face, he said that only the largest party gets the post of Chief Minister and this tradition has been followed till now.
In a program of a private channel, Chavan said that during the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party performed better and won the most seats than other constituents of MVA, so during the upcoming assembly elections, the Congress (in the alliance) deserves maximum seats. He also expressed confidence that the alliance will win the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.
Congress wants to empower women
During the program, Prithviraj Chavan, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra state, said that every election is different and there should not be overconfidence in political parties. During this, when Chavan was asked whether the MVA will cancel the ambitious 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' of the current Mahayuti government after coming to power? He said that Congress wants to empower women in every way. In such a situation, why will Congress not implement it in Maharashtra.
He said, "This is the right of women who are taking care of the next generation without salary. We will make Ladki Behen Yojana a rights-based program in Maharashtra."
Under the Ladki Behen Yojana, a fixed amount is given every month to provide financial assistance to women. Prithviraj Chavan said that this scheme has also been implemented in the states of Karnataka and Telangana and under this, women are getting two thousand rupees per month.
INDIA prevented division of vote
On a question asked about the 'India' alliance, he said that before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition parties had played a 'masterstroke' by forming the 'India' alliance to challenge the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He said, "Even though this is not a perfect alliance, it has been possible to prevent the division of opposition votes in the elections."
'We will have a common manifesto'
On the question of the chief ministerial face of MVA, Chavan said that only the largest party gets the post of Chief Minister and this tradition has been followed till now. He said, "If there is a need to take a decision beyond this tradition, then this decision will be taken by the Congress leadership."
The former Chief Minister further said, "There is no need for a single leader in MVM. We will have a common manifesto. Congress deserves the maximum number of seats. We joined the alliance as a junior partner but we got more seats in the Lok Sabha elections."
